Personal note; status report...

I think -- I could be wrong, but I think -- that I now have everything under control for the two projects I asked you to advise me about and help me with. I have two thick folders now of articles and materials; those materials include a printout of all your comments and responses compiled into a single file, as well as printed-out transcripts of some IM sessions. If I can't manage now to do a respectable job, it will be entirely my own fault; you [youall] have most definitely done your part.

My next steps are the standard ones that go with any kind of teaching: I have to choose from my files the items that are the most important and most useful for my listeners/readers to learn, decide what order to present them in, and construct a wording for them that will be both clear and interesting.

Thank you again for all your help; it's trite to say I couldn't have done it without you, but in this case that trite line is also the simple truth. I had so little time that if I hadn't been able to call on you the whole thing would have been impossible.

Needless to say [which always means that whatever-it-is does need to be said], if you think of anything else that you feel should be included in my files, I'll welcome the additional input.

Recommended link; bureaucratic mess in medicine...

Recommended, thanks to Andrew Tobias: "A Lifesaving Checklist," by Atul Gawande, at
http://tinyurl.com/24rehr -- where you'll learn that a simple hospital procedure that has saved more than 1500 lives and nearly $200 million over 18 months is being shut down .

The original article about that procedure, also by Atul Gawande, also recommended, is at http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2007/12/10/071210fa_fact_gawande .

I'm with Tobias: "This one is so basic and obvious, even the Bush Administration should be able to get it right."

Personal note; possible glitch, with apology...

I've been trying all day long to post here in my usual way (by e-mail), and it hasn't been working; I've put in a request for help to Support, after dutifully emptying my browser cache. I even went to my friends list and whined about it, OT, to poeticalpanther, who was very gracious about my behavior.

And then a thought occurred to me. I post by e-mail because LJ Support advised me a while back that my browser was no longer compatible with posting directly. But LJ is always being tweaked, and things change; I decided to find out whether that was still true.

And SHAZAM! I had no trouble at all posting by just using the "Post an entry" link.

This is wonderful -- except for just one thing, which is that all those e-mails I've been sending may very well finally appear, in duplicate ... maybe in triplicate ... especially if Support figures out what's wrong and fixes it. And that may well happen long after I've turned off my computer for the day. If that happens, I apologize for perserverating at you.
