A link and a wish and a note in passing.....

One good way to start the new year would be to read John McWhorter's crotchety post titled "Mohawk Philosophy Lessons," at http://itre.cis.upenn.edu/~myl/languagelog/archives/000128.html . Just to get the neurogears turning.

I wish you one and all a New Year less flabbergasting than 2005 and more gentle.

And now I'm off to take down all the Christmas decorations in my house, which is a lengthy process. If instead of living in a too-small underground house I lived in a huge aboveground house I would leave the Christmas tree decorated and just stash it in a spare room for the rest of each year. Since I have no spare room, that's not an alternative......

Note Of Thanks.....

I've been waiting to post this note until I could be sure of my facts; I needed to let enough time go by and enough data accumulate to be certain that (a) I wasn't imagining it, and (b) it wasn't just a due-to-chance blip.

I'm sure now: My book sales are up.

Some of the positive numbers are the result of the opportunity Norwescon gave me last March, when they let me be their Science Guest of Honor. I'm grateful for that opportunity, and I thank them for it.

All the rest have to be credited to this LJ blog and its readers and commenters. I'm grateful for all the help and support you've been giving me, and I thank you most sincerely.

It's lovely.
