Why not give up politics for Lent and see what happens? (Sympathetic hug and the offer of a nice cup of tea. And my middle cat to rest on your lap.)

The Art of Unpoems

I've always been fascinated by unpoems, by things that purport not to be poems but function as poems anyhow. This is at least the third one I've seen; I first came across one in a poetry class, and was inspired to write one of my own.
I am especially intrigued because, on the other hoof, there are things that are presented as poems that obviously *aren't* poems -- they're prose arbitrarily chopped into short lines. And on the third hoof, there are found poems, which started life as prose, but whose properties suit them to reformatting as poetry.
Language is like quantum physics: just when you think you've got it pinned down, it warps the laws of reality and wriggles loose. Gotta love it.

nice unpoem. Also sending virtual cup of tea - silver pearls - it's lovely. You can blog whenever you want, we'll wait for it.

May the bloggers block
soon pass.
Politics can freeze
the heart
and chill the soul,
But wisdom that warms
is always welcome
and that reward
should make our wait
worthwhile.
(I'm now looking at this un-poemed response and not liking it much, so I will offer a cup of strong British tea to make up for it.)

recoil
weary
from detailed discussion and distraction
it's a massive build-up
recharge
wary
against excessive excitement and exhaustion
it's a long campaign
rejoin
willful
now reasonably revitalized and renewed
it's a useful pause
rejoice

The post, and its similar-formed responses, refresh my writer's soul.
