Personal note....
Many thanks for all of the good wishes you sent for my dental procedure yesterday; I'm grateful. Yesterday's session was rough; without the good wishes it might well have been worse. However, there is one very good thing I can say this morning: Yesterday's session is now over. Done! Behind me, and I don't have to do that particular one again, ever. For that, I am also grateful.

Moving right along....

Fitting the crowns was rough? What sort of butcher did you have?

No butcher .... just my very good, very careful, very caring dentist. The problem was that I made a bad decision. He explained to me that people don't ordinarily need any kind of anesthetic just for fitting the permanent crowns, and that the process doesn't take long, and that he hated for me to have to put up with a numb face all day for something that's over so fast -- but left the decision up to me. I opted for "natural dentistry," and that turned out to be a mistake. Something wrong with the nerve(s) in question, I guess; anyway, it ending up taking an hour-and-a-half -- mostly because I was shaking so hard that we kept having to take breaks -- and it hurt. A lot. By the time we realized that it had been a mistake not to do some injections we were well into the procedure, and stopping for the shots then would have been really absurd. However, my dentist made it very clear that I had that option, and that he would do it instantly if I asked him to. I opted for being stoical -- except for all the shaking and whimpering and disgraceful carrying on. I think it was as hard on him as it was on me, because he has tried so hard to get me over my dental phobia -- and has made real progress with that task -- and because he was genuinely upset that I was hurting. This is the first time he has ever caused me any pain, and that includes the other four crowns he's done for me in the past. We just never tried doing a procedure with no anesthetics of any kind before.

He sounds like a wonderful fellow. Good dentists are precious. I still drive to another city to see my dentist. I have no interest in looking for a new one!

I really admire you for trying (if my dentist(s) even hint(s) at the possibility of anesthetics I jump! at it, yes! yes!! yes!!! before they can say whether or not they think it's necessary) but I hope in the future you'll just accept a numb face as a part of take care of dentistry business (unless that also comes with additional unpleasantness you're sparing us).

Ah, I understand - the preparation is seldom pleasant, and it's an endurance simply to sit there and have things done in one's mouth.

But as you say, that's the worst of it over.

So glad that is all done!
Now, you have to feel better, if only relieved!
YAY! It's done!

The bare fact that you consented to have any dental procedure performed without anaesthetic is clear evidence that you and your dentist have made great strides in moderating your dental phobia. Congratulations!

There's a lot of wonderful things to be said about it being All Over. I'm very glad for you, and may your crowns serve you well for the rest of your life.
