Personal note; Barnes & Noble book update...
There has been a development in the ongoing saga of The Gentle Art of Verbal Self-Defense -- the first book in the GAVSD series, and the one that you've been helping me keep track of. My agent called last night to tell me that Barnes & Noble definitely wants to do a revised second edition, and that final details will be coming my way in a few days.

Now I know from long experience that no deal is final until the contracts are signed by all parties involved. And I know that even then the deal sometimes isn't final. [Ask any writer who's had a contract with a publisher that went bankrupt or a publisher that was swallowed up by a bigger publisher, or any writer whose editor on a contract has moved on to some other publisher.] Chickens, my friends, I most definitely do not count until they're hatched.

But things look good at this point; it's encouraging. I'm encouraged enough to be actively trying to figure out where in my work schedule I can put this new project...

Let us know when we can pre-order them. I'm probably good for a case of those.

I haven't had an answer to my first letter yet; there have been postal strikes here. However, is anyone else game to keep on writing them gentle little letters pointing out that the book teaches valuable life-skills material and it isn't nice to have to give a second-book as a gift? (Or giving them other solid nudges?)

one of my local independent booksellers recently started carrying your 'GAVSD at work.' I saw it the other day as I was talking to their business and technical buyer.

Did you write that? I read that. I subscribed to your blog and read your book without realizing the connection. Cool. Synchronous even. Dig it.

Hi, hope you are doing well. This is good news.

I'm sorry to be cryptic, but I would really like to ask for your help on something and I don't think LJ comments is the right place to do it. Is there another way to get in touch?

I know how busy you are and would not be at all offended if you would rather not, but I think that it is something that you would want to help with.

As I say, please don't worry if you don't have time.

Fitting anything else into my schedule, especially with the new edition of the book to deal with now, would be very difficult -- but saying no without any idea what I'm saying no to is never a good idea. You could send me an e-mail ... the address is ocls [that's an L, not a numeral one] at madisoncounty dot net.

Since my copy awaits me in heaven (viz Lewis and Tolkien: I loaned it out and it never returned) I will certainly purchase a new ed. And review same for WashYARG. Could any rev. ed. include teens/youth?
