What if you're not strong enough to get the Go-Bag over your shoulder? I've run into some suggestions I'd have to put in the wheelie cart.

What I've done first and foremost is set up one soft-sided cat carrier for each cat by the doors, and have encouraged them to sleep in them. I can, in extremis, carry two cat carriers as far as the car. hotos and souvenirs be hanged - I want my fur fellows out of there and with me.

A lot of the Go Bag stuff is in the trunk of the car, and I have memorized the surface street routes out of Albuquerque, which are precious few.

Huzzah! A set of emergency-kit ideas that don't assume you have a strong back and access to a 4WD to carry it all!

(But I do think someone needs to write a good "how to think about emergency evacuation if you have a disability" article. E.g. what to do if you're in a wheelchair, or what to do if you're deaf and radios are useless to you.)

I don't think I've ever seen suggestions on how to escape in an electric wheelchair...

I have the site bookmarked under Official Websites. Add to the list (the author is a guy; this might not occur to him), a clean pair of underpants in a ziploc bag. In extremis you may need to change them out and wash them later.

I keep a clean pair of underpants in a ziploc bag in my purse at all times; with that, dental floss, my cell phone, and credit cards, I have the bare minimum I need!

If you need a source for waterproof notebooks, the University of New Mexico bookstore sells them at reasonable prices. They're online at http://bookstore.unm.edu/

That's wonderful timing, thanks! I was just thinking about that issue last night after my apartment building had a fire alarm go off. (I grabbed the cat carrier, put the cat in it, found shoes, purse, cell phone, and book--but it would have been better not to have to think about those things.)

I'm sure most of you have thought of this, but a dear friend just had his backup hard drive stolen. He felt so good that he had this great backup system, but because it was in his house, it was gone with his laptop. Worth thinking about all the information we have....and what a thief, fire, or flood could do.

My mother keeps a set of family recipes in her safe deposit box!

An interesting discussion, but I'm not going anywhere.
