Sorry about that.... I'll get it deleted shortly. Incompatibility Gremlins...

Any interest in iconish thingies (high level tech talk) for those links to hide behind?

It's not that I'm not interested; I just don't think there's any way for me to add iconish thingies.
At the moment -- unless I'm totally misunderstanding the messages I've had from the LJ tech staff -- I'm very lucky that there's still one LJ style that isn't incompatible with my browser; if that one gets updated, I'll be lost in blogspace. I know things are constantly changing at LJ, which could perhaps mean that iconish thingies are possible for me now, but the pattern of change is usually in the form of LJ's specs receding every more rapidly away from me.

My goal is just to get that set of links to be a part of my posts, since I have no way to set up boxes or columns at the sides of the screen in the Modern Fashion, without their being too annoying to readers.

Gotcha'. ...and I'm not conversant enough with even the free template I use here to provide anything other than linkage to the places where I do speak the dialect of web language.

Your "How Verbal Self-Defense Works" site led me to your SFWA page... and after seeing your photo there, I just wanted to comment and say, you are a truly lovely person, inside and out.

You have taught me an enormous amount, and I'm glad you exist.

Just thought I'd tell you, you know. :)

You've brightened my day, griffen -- thank you. I want you to know, however, that the teaching has been going in both directions, and I doubt you've learned one thing more from me than I have learned from you. We're even.

You have, perhaps without knowing it, affirmed (I just read the article at How Stuff Works) why I had to start my divorce process (and move in the middle of the semester!) -- my own health was at stake.

Looks like the links are working! But you've somehow got some line-breaks in there. Odd. Artifact of copying/pasting from your email? You may need to backspace to clear up the linebreaks. (The linebreaks may also look like
(<br>)

I would be more coherent, but there is child-including discussion going on, and it's very distracting...

I tested all the links, and they all work perfectly EXCEPT: "We Have Always Spoken Panglish".
Two spaces sneaked in to make "e(space)(space)lgin1.html".

link is now:
http://www.scifi.com/scifiction/originals/originals_archive/elgin/e lgin1.html

link should be:
http://www.scifi.com/scifiction/originals/originals_archive/elgin/elgin1.html

You should also know that on this page:
http://www.scifi.com/scifiction/archive.html
there's a strange note saying:

As of Friday, June 15, 2007, SCI FICTION will no longer be availabe [sic] on SCIFI.COM. SCIFI.COM would like to thank all those who contributed and those who read the short stories over the past few years.

I'm guessing this means they'll be pulling the plug on all those written short stories soon, including "We Have Always Spoken Panglish"; even though the stated deadline is long gone now, they could always claim "we warned you". So, you might want to just delete the link to "We Have Always Spoken Panglish", if SciFi Channel is going to break the link anyway.

Thank you for testing the links and posting the results. I think, however, that I'm going to stay with URLs, because I can't be sure what will happen if I try to repair the list of links -- nobody wants to watch me doing test after test after test.

You're right that "We Have Always Spoken Panglish" is no longer at scifi.com, even when I try to access it from the Ellen Datlow Project page. However, I went googling for it and found a PDF of it at https://webspace.utexas.edu/ bighamds/LIN312/Files/Elgin-Panglish.pdf . That one may not last, but it will serve for now.
