i apologize if i missed the correct window of opportunity to contribute to the "unit of prayer" discussion, but isn't there already the term "blessing", as in "a thousand blessings on your new baby" or whatnot?

You haven't missed the window -- that discussion is still going on, in various threads. The problem with "blessing" is that there are many prayers out there that aren't prayers for something good to happen. It would be pleasant to think that nobody prays for awful things to happen, but that's not the way it is, not in this flawed human world. It is in fact hard to pray for only good things to happen if you get specific, because -- for just one example -- praying for someone to recover successfully from an infection can't be done without including the deaths of huge numbers of bacteria. Praying for one team in an athletic event to win can't be done without including a loss for the other team. Blessing won't cover it.

i guess you are imputing a sweetness-and-light aspect to "blessing" that i had not anticipated, for just the kinds of situations you describe. i think "good" tends to be in the eye of the beholder (or perhaps praying person, or objet d'prayer) in this case.
