Recommended: "[Insourcing]: Indian Call Center Lands In Ohio," by Jia Lynn Yang. Which explains "insourcing" as "the term experts are starting to use when foreign multinationals open offices on U.S. soil and hire Americans, at a higher price, to do the very jobs they once lured overseas."

Your comment at my blog was so funny! If there were a more grownup equivalent of OMG available, I would use it. The Empress has often argued that companies which outsource jobs could instead send those jobs to depressed ares in the U.S., like the Delta community that she comes from. Outsourcing typically only saves a company 15% or less in the final analysis, and a company could probably save that much by paying the going rate in a depressed community, and possibly receive grants or tax breaks for doing so.

I spent 36 years in Ohio, mostly on the edge of Appalachia, and there are so many places where people would do just about anything to get a job.
The turnabout is interesting.

Call centers in the US -- but not local to the caller -- can still run into problems. One winter, a Minneapolis resident I know called (if I remember correctly) the gas company.

The person she talked to had much trouble understanding "the pipes are frozen."

The call center was in Texas.
