Recommended link; the role of public libraries....
There's a parallel discussion of this topic, provoked by the same newspaper piece, going on at http://www.metafilter.com/mefi/57493 -- with 99 comments posted. It makes interesting reading.

[I found another one as well, but won't recommend it. Why would someone have a blog that uses blue type on a background of medium brown with tiny light brown flowers?]

I do have to agree with the commentor who said that people who want the classics go out and buy them. Or, at least that's what I've been doing. And no, the versions I'm getting aren't spinach at all. Well, take that back, I love things cooked Florentine. Anyway -

I go to the library to sample books I'm not sure I want to buy, or for ones worth reading once. Especially since there's no way on earth to unload a used hardback novel.

Just my $0.02

Because they're color blind? It's the only rational explanation I can come up with.

Maybe their monitor shows it quite differently than yours. Maybe on theirs the light blue is darker, and the brown is lighter, and the flowers are PINK. My hubby used to work for a company that was specifically in existence to help folks like on-line clothing purveyors show colors accurately. It's BIG business because everyone's system does it differently.

Or maybe they're color blind. ;^)

I suspect the person with that blog has very young, very acute eyes.
