Personal note....
I'm not going to be able to post tomorrow -- I've got a foot-high stack of All The Things I Hate To Do. Snailmail to answer. Forms to fill out and return. Bills to pay. Accounts to enter and balance. Insurance thingies and tax thingies and SFWA thingies. Filing. Horrible.

My fault for letting it pile up while I was be-flued. Reaping what I sowed, you perceive.

I'm also way behind in answering your comments; whenever I can't stand even one more clerical or accounting task tomorrow, I'll take a break and do that till I get a second wind.

I'm glad to see that you can now post about having flu in the past tense.

I liked the vocab lesson. I thought, however, that "beside or around" was connoted by "peri," and that "para" meant "like," as in paratrooper.

Paratrooper is actually a portmanteau deriving partly from 'Parachute'.

BTW, another Octavia Butler post: http://www.slate.com/id/2137269/

Glad you are doing better.

Argh! I'd offer my services with the filing, if I could. Mind, I'm not very good. Your taxes would probably go to the SFWA, and the IRS would scratch its collective head and go, "Who ARE these people?"

Oh, dear!

Yes, shame on you for not rising from your sickbed to tend to these things. Next time --- get real! You were SICK! Now, cause and effect I'll grant you, but reaping what YOU sowed? Naaah. Reaping what that nasty flu sowed.

Now take off that Puritan bonnet, set Marcus Aurelius aside, and have a nice cup of hot tea woth a dash of anti-guilt meds.

Yesterday turned out to be a very good choice for a day devoted to clerical and accounting and other Things I Hate To do -- I got almost all of it done, and what I didn't get to can wait.

It didn't turn out well in terms of posting responses to comments, however. Sometime in the early morning, a construction company cut through a phone cable in our area, and we spent most of the day without Internet access, cell phone service, or long distance phone service.

Best laid plans, going aft agley......
