Politics, and a question; general comment... I went back this morning and re-read all the comments responding to my question about what you'd do on your first day if you were the President of the United States. I wanted to double-check to make sure that I wasn't missing something. And I don't seem to be.
Although there are one or two comments I found cryptic, I couldn't find a single one that said anything like the following, or even some small portion of the following:
"I'd open two more facilities like Guatanamo. I'd write executive orders announcing my intention to abolish Medicare and Medicaid. I'd draft legislation to expand the Patriot Act and make it far more stringent. I'd establish a blue-ribbon commission to work on a plan to get rid of the term limits on the Presidency. I'd order an immediate air strike on Iran. ... [And so on.]"
The absence of anything along those lines surprised me a tad, and puzzles me, because I've had comments in the past saying -- courteously, but firmly -- "I not only disagree with your political convictions, I find some of the things you say with regard to those convictions offensive."
I'm not at all sure I understand this. I find myself seriously wondering what those who approve of the actions of the current administration would do on their first day in office if they were the President of the United States.
Nonetheless, I thank you, one and all, for taking my question seriously, and for participating in the discussion. |
