Personal note; current discussion on the grammar of favors.... You may have noticed that I've completely lost control of our Favors Grammar discussion; it's taken on a life of its own, and has acquired a number of demands for attention to additional subtopics. Before I do another new post, I need to stop and spend some time responding to comments and thinking about how to re-organize.
I'm not ignoring those of you who've been saying that some part of the discussion that matters greatly to you hasn't been given proper attention -- I just haven't gotten there yet.
Many thanks for all your comments and responses and suggestions; I appreciate your help.
In this discussion, the favor is one of those "I'm going to be in town for a while -- could I stay at your place?" requests. I recommend reading both the post and the comments.
Quick note -- new story link... The Amazing Webperson at my SFWA site has fixed things so that "We Have Always Spoken Panglish" is now at http://sfwa.org/members/elgin/Story-Panglish.html -- which means you don't have to fool with a pdf to read it. Three cheers; four, even!
She is someone that I am forever asking for favors, and she has never refused me yet; I keep hoping the day will come when I'll be able to do something for her for a change.
